Over Calf Socks

As a woman the whole idea of the over the calf socks really confuses me.  Granted, I can understand them being worn for certain sports, over the calf socks that are slipper socks, or over the calf socks for wearing under boots but men, they where their over the calf socks with everything and I just don’t seem to understand it.

Take my husband for example, he wears over the calf socks that he constantly complains that they don’t stay up and that they are always falling down.  He does wear cow boy boots a lot but even then the over the calf socks fall down.  He doesn’t stop there though.  Once this last summer I had to stop him before he walked out the door.  He was wearing sneakers, over the calf socks, and shorts that went to his knees.  I couldn’t believe my eyes.  What was the point in that.  Men tend to be more concerned with function than fashion so I can over look what it looked like but it just didn’t make any sense.

Finally one day, I asked him what his fixation was with the over the calf socks and the answer really shocked me.  You see, his father wore over the calf socks as did his fathers father and well so on for as long as we can think of.  The issues is now though, that the over the calf socks just don’t stay up.  In a much earlier time men wore garters to hold up their over the calf socks, but I don’t think that they even make such a thing any more.  So why does he still wear the over the calf socks, well that’s because its like a tradition in his family and like many other men out there, he has never worn anything else.

I am one that appreciates traditions and what not so I set out one day to try and help him solve his issues with the over the calf socks constantly falling down.  I swear that I must have searched for a week or more before I finally found over the calf socks that don’t fall down.  I read all through the information that other people had written about the over the calf socks and which ones they found that they liked the best.  So I ordered a small bag of them and he liked them but they still slipped a bit so I went back to searching and finally found over the calf socks that don’t fall down.  He is happy with them and so am I, as long as I can keep him from wearing them with shorts!
