Non Slip Socks

In my house most of my flooring is either wood or vinyl or even tile and that makes for some very slick surfaces but I had never really thought about how slick they were until I dislocated my knee one winter.  There I was, on crutches in the winter and it was super cold.  I had my husband put on big soft sock on my feet for me before he left for work and that was a big mistake.  You see just moving around a little bit made my knee hurt and that meant that putting on my own socks hurt.  Then I had to go to the bath room.  I had everything I needed in bed, except a bath room.  So I got up and before I could even sit up all the way I was in a huge amount of pain.  On my crutches I went and got off the big soft run that is under our bed and I hit the cold and slick wood floor of my bed room with those big soft socks on.  I slipped several times and almost didn’t make it to the bath room.  Once I had gone I had to figure out what to do because I couldn’t go on like this for eight hours.  I made it back to my bed and now that I felt like I was dying in pain I called the only person that I knew wasn’t at work that day.  I don’t think that I had ever felt so helpless and so embarrassed in my life, but there was some one there to help me!

My Mother in law came right over, after I told her what had happened, and she couldn’t have been more loving.  She brought me food, drinks, ice packs, and three pair of non slip socks.  I knew that non slip socks existed but I had never worn a pair of them before.  She changed my socks for me and when got up to use the bathroom again I didn’t have all of the slips and near falls that I had the first time.  When my husband got home and saw the non slip socks on my feet he said “I guess my Mom was here” he didn’t tell me that when he called to tell her that I had dislocated my knee that she suggested that he buy me a couple of pairs of non slip socks so that I could get around.  Now, I love these socks and even though my knee is all healed up I still wear the non slip socks all the time!  I guess Mother does always know.
